Mario López-Garelli, a Paraguayan national, is an attorney with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. He has worked at the IACHR since 1995. He is currently responsible for coordinating the Commission’s EFP Regional Section (composed of Brazil, Canada, United States, Haiti, Suriname, and the OAS Member States in the English-speaking Caribbean); the activities of the IACHR Office of the Rapporteur on the Rights of Migrant Workers and their Families; and the Inter-American Commission’s sessions and hearings. He has worked on cases and issues involving a number of OAS Member States and has participated in a number of onsite investigation visits and special sessions outside headquarters. Before he joined the IACHR Executive Secretariat, he served as Executive Secretary of the Paraguayan National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, legal adviser with the ITAIPÚ Binational Entity, and Professor of Law at the National University of Asunción.
