CLIMATe

The weather is moderate in winter, hot and dry in the month of April and May. The rain season starts in May and ends around October and generally consists of sunny mornings followed by cloudy afternoons with rain. Mornings and nights can be cold, especially in the winter. Having an average temperature of 16 ° C, approximately 60 ° F.

 


TRADITIONAL MEALS AND DISHES

Barbacoa: Lamb meat steamed in coals under the earth. This dish is accompanied by tortillas and sauces, in addition to the inseparable consommé, a soup resulting from the juices of the meat.

Quesadillas: Corn tortillas (a type of think mexican bread) stuffed with cheese, vegetables, chicken, or beef. The quesadillas of “cheese and flower” or “huitlacoche” are must-try’s.

Tacos: Tacos de Canasta are traditional in the morning, thye are small corn tortillas stuffed with beans, potatoes, or meat. Later the tacos de suadero or carnitas are typical. Tacos de suadero are small tortillas stuffed with fried beef and carnitas are usually bigger tortillas stuffed with fried pork.

Tamales: Tamales are traditional at breaks or dinner. Tamales in the Federal District are made with corn flour, with a little chile, mole or sweet, with chicken or pork meat, wrapped in cornhusks. They are usually accompanied with atole, a hot and sweet drink also made with corn or rice.

Tortas: Made of white stuffed bread (sandwich style) with sausages, cheese, egg, beef or chicken, etc.

Pan de Dulce: There are endless options: shells, ears, horns, churros or slices; those are some examples of the elaborate creations that have persisted since colonial times.

 


HOLIDAYS AND FESTIVALS

The month of November is especially attractive as the Day of the Dead is celebrated, a traditional Mexican festival that honors the ancestors. It is celebrated mainly on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with the Catholic celebrations of the Day of the Faithful Dead and All Saints. In 2008 Unesco declared the festivity as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of Mexico.

During holidays government agencies, banks and schools do not hold any open business hours. However, the vast majority of museums, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, amusement parks and other attractions remain open and usually hold special hours.

 


SCHEDUELES

The time zone corresponds to GMT -6 and it is modified during the summer months. Activity in the City usually begins at 5am and extends until after 12am.

Most shopping centers and services are open from 9am to 8pm, Monday through Sunday.

Banks have shorter schedules from 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday; however, iextensive ATM networks are offered.

The vast majority of museums and places of interest have a schedule from 9am to 5pm, from Tuesday to Sunday, day in which many of them have free access.

Mass transit service operates from 5am to 12am, genrally and in most of its modes.
