Weather
It is moderate in winter, hot and dry in April and May.The rainy season begins in May and ends around October, usually consisting of sunny mornings ,followed by cloudy and rainy afternoons. The mornings and nights can be cold, especially in the winter, with the average temperature of 16 °C.
Food and traditional dishes.
BBQ: Lamb cooked in steam , in an under ground pit , accompanied by tortillas and salsa as well as the inseparable consomme, a soup fro the meats juces.
Quesadillas: Corn tortillas stuffed with cheese, vegetables, chicken or beef. Quesadillas
“Cheese and flower “or “huitlacoche” are a must.
Tacos: In the morning it is traditional to eat “Tacos de Canasta”, small corn tortillas stuffed with beans, potatoes, or meat. Later in the day , suadero tacos or carnitas are typical, with the first being small tortillas stuffed with fried beef, and the second tend to be larger and filled with fried pork.
Tamales: Traditional at breakfast or dinner, tamales from Mexico City are made with corn flour, a little chili, mole or sweet sauce , with chicken or pork wrapped in corn husks. It’s often accompanied with atole, a hot and sweet drink also made with corn or rice.
Tortas: Made with white bread stuffed with sausage, cheese, eggs, beef or chicken, etc. (It’s similar to sandwich)
Pan Dulce: There are endless options: shells, ears, horns, churros or slices, are some examples of the elaborate creations that have persisted since colonial times.
Holidays
September is an especially an attractive month. The celebration of Independence brings a very unique festive air to the city. This year it is Friday, September 16, the anniversary of the beginning of the struggle for independence.
Government agencies, banks and schools do not work during holidays. However the majority of museums, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, amusement parks and other attractions are open and they usually have special schedules.
Schedules
The time zone corresponds to GMT -6, and is changed during the summer months. The activity in the city usually starts at 5am and runs until after 12pm.
Most commercial and service centers are open from 9am to 8pm, form Monday to Sunday.
The banks have a shorter schedule from 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday. Mexico City has an extensive network of ATMs.
The majority of museums and sites are open from 9am to 5pm from Tuesday to Sunday, many of them have free access.
Public transportation service operates from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in most of its forms.
