The Latin American Award for Journalism on Drugs was held

It was a mark of the III Latin American Conference on Drug Policies that takes place until tomorrow in mexico City.

(Mexico City, September 13th) The Mexican journalist Diego Enrique Osorno was awarded first place in the contest for his article “Why did they kill my mayor?” published in the Gatopardo magazine by Kasia Malinoswska-Sempruch, director of the Drug Policies Global Program of the Open Society Institute.

Later on, the Brazilians Thiago Neuenschander and Wagner Sarmento, authors of “Conexao Recife,” were recognized for obtaining second place, awarded by Andrea Dominguez Duque, member of the judges’ panel. The text had been published in the Jornal Do Commercio.

After that, Alejandro Sierra, director of the THC magazine, received third place for the essay “El faso no mancha” on behalf of the Argentine Juan Ignacio Proyéndola, published in the same magazine. It was awarded by Garciela Touzé, president of the Civil Association Intercambios.

There was also an Honorable Mention for Yetel Ricaño Noguera, the Cuban journalist that wrote an essay titled “Testigos del humo, creadores de el” in Tiempo 21.

The variety of themes within the macro-problem of drugs was the denominator of these prizes, selected by a prestigious judges’ panel composed by Martín Caparrós, Roberto Valencia, and Andrea Dominguez Duque.
