José Ángel Córdova Villalobos. Health Secretary. Mexico

Obtained a medical degree, an MA in Public Administration, a Specialty in State and Municipal Public Administration and an MA in Administration from the University of Guanajuato. He is specialist in Internal Medicine at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition “Salvador Zubirán”, and in General Surgery and Digestive Endoscopy, at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France, where he received the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa.

He was a delegate in the National Action Party parliamentary group in the 59th Session of the Mexican Congress, during which he directed the Health Commission.

He also was President of the General Council of the Electoral Institute of the State of Guanajuato, Research Project Assessor of the SSA-CONCYTEG competition, Guanajuato, and Civic Advisor of the General Council of the Electoral Institute of the State of Guanajuato (1994).

In academy field, he was Director of the Academy of Professors and Students of the Medicine Faculty of the University of Guanajuato (1998-2000), Professor in the B.Sc. in Nutrition of the Medicine Faculty of the University of Guanajuato (since 2001) and Vice-President of the Mexican Association of Medicine Faculties and Schools (1993-1994).

In 1995 he became President of the Undergraduate Surgical Education Commission of the Mexican Association of General Surgery. He also was the editor of the Mexican Magazine of Medical Education (1993-1997).

He has received numerous awards such as the government of Guanajuato for their academic career, by the National Academy of Medicine for his legislative history and the Federal Ministry of Health for his legislative work, he was also honored in 2010 as knight of the Legion of Honor of France for his work on behalf of the Mexican population and his history of more than 30 years to reinforce the cooperation and friendship between Mexico and France.

During his career Dr. Córdova has participated in over 180 national and international forums, has presented 233 scientific papers, including articles, chapters and entire books around the world.

He belongs to 13 national and international scientific associations, he has six different tips certifications of specialties in Mexico, he participated in 11 management positions and was a juror several times to scientific events. He belongs to the Mexican Academy of Surgery and the National Academy of Medicine. He is currently the Chairman of the 50 Board of the Pan American Health Organization.
