Philippe Lamy. Mexico representative of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO).

Dr. Lamy, a French citizen, obtained his Bachelor´s and Master´s in Biochemistry and Biology from the Faculty of Sciences in Paris.  Before that, he completed his post-graduate studies in Biology at the Technical University of Eastern Berlin.  He also received a PhD in Social Economics from the School of Superior Studies in Social Sciences in Paris, as well as a Certificate in Public Health from the University of Paris.

Dr. Lamy began his professional career in 1971 as a Biologist in the Pasteur Hospital of Berlin.  In 1975, he was the co-founder of the Investigation Unit on Traditional Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and the Mexican Institute of Social Security, where he worked until 1978.  Between 1980 and 1982, he was in charge of health sector issues at the Center of Formation of Technical Experts and International Cooperation at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris.  From 1982 to 1986, he was the coordinator of the International Health Sector Research Group of Investigations and Technological Exchange, and from 1986 to 1990 he occupied the same post at the Department of Public Health and the University of Rennes.  In addition, between 1985 and 1991 he was the President and previously the Director of the International Organizational for Cooperation in Sanitary Care (Medicus Mundi Francia).

Dr. Lamy joined the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) in 1991 as the Essential Drugs Advisor in La Paz, Bolivia. In 1995, he was named Representative of the OPS/OMS in Nicaragua, and in 2000, Representative of the OPS/OMS in Costa Rica.  In 2004, he moved to PAHO in Washington D.C., as the Area Manager of Governance, Policy, and Partnerships until April 16th, 2007, the date in which he was named the Representative of the OPS/OMS in Mexico.
