Head of  HIV Unit of the World Health Organization in Vietnam.

After graduating in Medicine at the State University of Londrina, Brazil, began his career in the early 80’s always in the area of ​​Public Health. During his long career, Dr. Mesquita was in the forefront of the fight against the AIDS epidemic in Brazil and pioneered the introduction of harm reduction in Latin America.

His work in the field of HIV AIDS and Public Policy on Drugs  has been intense international recognition, including several awards and prestige. Fabio worked in Brazil twice in the National AIDS Program of the Ministry of Health, as Chief of the Unit of Prevention and Human Rights.

It was also the coordinator of this Program in relevant cities such as São Vicente, Santos and Sao Paulo. He lives in Asia 6 years ago, and he has been a constant voice in defense of universal access to health rights and a tireless fighter for human rights.

Dr Mesquita  published articles in several languages, ​​in scientific journals and books, presenting numerous papers at international conferences on Harm Reduction, Drug Policy, and HIV / AIDS. Fabio Mesquita was founder and first vice president of the International Harm Reduction Asociation (IHRA). Fabio is currently the Team Leader for HIV / AIDS World Health Organization in Viet Nam, a country where the epidemic is completely related to injecting drug use.
