He studied Law at San Pablo University (USP). He has a master degree in Constitutional Law at Brasilia University (UnB). He assumed the National Secretariat of Justice (SNJ) after a long career in the structure of the Ministry of Justice.

He was one of the coordinators of Disarmament Campaign of Ministry of Justice and worked in the implementing regulations of the Federal Prison System

Abramovay was secretary for Legislative Affairs (2007-2010). During this time he was responsible for the making of many draft law and its negotiation. Some of them: Penal Process Code reform, the Law to Combat Violence in the States Bill, etc.

During the Tarso Genro administration, Abramovay was a practicing Justice Minister, two times. Recently he was appointed to assume executive direction at United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), based in Vienna.
